Posted: 23 Aug 2004 hi everybody, found a couple of pratts withtwo adult slow worms about 2 days ago and managed to get them to give them to me. thought i'd bringthem home and feed them up and release them a day or so latter. ..but woke up this morning checked them and have found they have given birth!!!!! any ideas of what to feed them. either tiny nd i mean tiny slugs or ???? any suggestions are welcome. mark |

Posted: 23 Aug 2004 Hi Mark Well done for rescuing those slow worms from those people. You could try feeding the young on small insects, maybe woodlice or even aphids as well as small slugs. You could also try small worms and possibly mealworms. Anyway all the best Danial P.S Did you find any adders near Merrits Wood when you did your surveys?. Posted: 24 Aug 2004 one of them look a bit squashed, well flat and the were also acting strangely to what i've seen thenm like before. they were hardly moving and were generally kind of sleepy. where i work at lightwater country park, the ranger was saying mybe tiny inverts such as springtails? but i have now released them back at merrist wood along with the young uns. and yep there are adders at merrist wood. mark |

Posted: 30 Sep 2004 Hi, My wife and children came home with a slow worm yesterday which they found in the middle of the road. We put it in a tank with soil, a rock and some old dead leaves. the tank has a ventilated lid. We found some small slugs to put in. Today the slow worm has produced a baby, should we try to look after it/them for a while or release them back to the wild soonest? If we should release them, should we try to locate more sloe worms in an area to release them, or, wood anywhere in wood do. Is it to late to release? Terry Clarke Tamar Valley (AONB) Cornwall |
